Brosius Dexter's BEVERLY BROSIUS

After earning her degree in photography from the University of Florida, Beverly Brosius entered her black-and white images in various art shows and won numerous awards. In 1979 she began working as a professional photographer and has a commercial studio in Orlando, where she focuses on shooting actors, models and images for advertising and illustration.

In the fall of 1991, Brosius discovered the magic of Polaroid transfers - a delicate process that involves shooting the subject with Polaroid film, then transfering the image onto watercolor paper and silk. The result is a dream like version of the original photograph in which the subject seems to emerge in a softly crayoned world, sometimes whimsically. When interposed in a diptych or tritych, the subjects of the individual pieces often seem to be engrossed in conversation with each other.

Brosius has created several series of these transfers featuring the human form in relation with a wide range of objects, including boulders, white chairs, black and white tubes and plants. In 1996 Brosius acquired 8 X 10 format and is now creating larger transfers than previously.
